US Forces Targeted a 'Big Complex' in Venezuela, Trump Claimed Without Offering Specifics.

Former President Donald Trump has claimed that American military assets hit a "large facility" in the South American country recently. But, the former president withheld information about the exact nature or site of the strike, and officials have issued no additional comment from his team.

Unspecific Remarks Offered In a Radio Show

"US forces just eliminated – I don't know if you read – they have a big plant, where the vessels depart from. Recently, we took it out. So we targeted them very hard," Trump reportedly said to Republican donor and supermarket owner John Catsimatidis on Friday.

Possible Significance of a Verified Attack

If a US strike is confirmed, it would represent the first land strike since the Pentagon began a buildup of American strike forces in the region to disrupt narco-trafficking operations that the Trump administration alleges operate under the authority of Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro.

The original purpose of the military buildup has transformed into a quarantine aimed at hindering the country's crude oil shipments.

Online Video and Administration Claims

Trump has for some time indicated that American military units are prepared to expand the military campaign by hitting objectives inside Venezuela, a move that would in theory require legislative authorization.

Online video shared on social media on 24 December appeared to show an detonation said to be from an industrial area in Zulia state. However, the footage or the facility has not been independently verified.

An administration official reportedly informed a news network that the former president was referring to a drug facility in his remarks.

Reaction and Current Military Situation

The Venezuelan government has issued no statement on the event Trump referenced. Additionally, there have been no verified accounts from Venezuela concerning it.

The presence of American forces in the region – a posture certain officials have termed a sea blockade – represents the largest naval operation of his time in office.

Sources have refrained from calling the action as a blockade, but have confirmed that around 15,000 service members are positioned across the Caribbean and the Gulf, including a aircraft carrier group, F-35 aircraft, and law enforcement vessels to enforce existing sanctions.
