Lando Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
The British driver has outscored his teammate at each of the last five race weekends.
The McLaren driver just pipped fellow driver and championship contender the Australian for the fastest time in the final moments of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who grabbed the points lead from his teammate by one point after winning in Mexico City a fortnight back, beat the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair during the running before the sprint shootout scheduled for 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in the championship fight, trailing 36 points behind Norris, ended up in 17th position as his Red Bull team opted for a alternative strategy.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to go off, albeit lightly, when he lost control at corner four early in the session.
The Japanese slid over the track edges before rotating through the run-off area, and was fortunate to escape with just a light touch of the wall.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the very end of the session, rotating twice through the fast downhill Mergulho turn approaching the final bend on to the start-finish straight.
The veteran wrapped up in P19, just behind team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren drivers were significantly quicker of the rest of the field, with Nico Hulkenberg's car P3, 0.619 seconds slower than Piastri's best.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with the Sauber of Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
