From the very beginning of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of personalities, and a gripping narrative showcasing divine entities, fiends, and dark forces growing in power within Dol-Makjar.
Warning: Key plot points for Episode 3 of the new season lie ahead.
The Warrior Group Introduced
Episode 3 ended with a dramatic pause and presented the premier party of adventurers who will split off from the main group to embark on their separate journey, distinct from the additional parties.
The combat-focused team includes Teor (played by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).
The Reason for Division
Given a large ensemble, it was evident from the beginning that having everyone at the same party would be unworkable.
Hence, the initial installments of this story serve as an Prelude, intertwining the characters’ stories before branching into three separate parties: Fighters, Strategists, and Questers.
Characteristics of the Soldiers Table
According to the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for participants who are drawn to a traditionally charged fight-heavy story mode where diplomatic options are scarce.
Initially, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might seem unsuited, but the actions of episode 3 demonstrate why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.
Reasons to Leave
First, the team understands precisely where to go next after a intense opening clash with the antagonists.
A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose death kicked off the campaign’s events—manipulated the enemy for his personal gain, invading Thjazi’s hideout, striking the character, and taking all the magical artifacts to auction.
The traitor then settled his liabilities and escaped to a fortified location in the northern region, beyond the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.
Character Drivers
Secondly, each member has a personal reason to leave the city Dol-Makjar:
- The rogue, as the close ally and best friend, desires revenge.
- The adventurer knows the northern area and advises that it is a nasty place.
- Tyranny and The cleric, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to kill Teor and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
- But, their reputation as key figures in House Halovar could help the party access areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Additionally, The fighter vowed a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his deliverance and will now go with him everywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
Lastly, all of them are wanted by the rulers that govern Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making staying in the city no longer safe:
- The agile adventurer and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
- The strong figure and The cleric turned against the influential house and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
- The target is wanted dead by House Halovar.
This means them few options but to journey toward Timmony in search of Casimir.
